Really dumb question
« on: May 27, 2007, 16:28 »
I have been reading lots of thread and keep on coming across the term 'bolting' what does it mean?

I am guessing it means growing quickly-but why is this a bad thing?

Means heads for the sky and then flowers and is therefore usuallt the end for that plant depending on what it is.

Bolting is just what all my quick growing salad has just done    But I still have plenty of seed left so when the rain stops i'll be out replanting.

Bolting happens in conjunction with warmer weather ... a bit of self preservation... when plant feels under threat it will 'bolt' ... go to seed ...  chards and spinach are good at this the second year when it gets warm ...

and just watch the onions and garlic do this in the hot weather !!
