Wrong time of year dear!

Try around march, april. I must say Kate i have a crush on Patrick. Wonderful colours. Liked the pencil 'patchwork' one you had too. If i could get some who didn't grow bigger than the three you temporarily had today.

Orfy could you please take a few photos of inside your coop? I'm building one from pallets shortly and would like to pick up some tips from yours.

Patrick is gorgeous. Will have to see what comes of next spring
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

What you have to do is find a lake, wait for a passing mallard and grab her quick, then keep her in your garden until the ducklings hatch, pick the weediest looking ones and hey presto !!

I'd love to know the genetics of the whites. They must have a lot of domestic in there somewhere.

Nice design, I like that!
I'm up to £43 so far on the house, fingers crossed I only need some timber preserver and felt roofing but that'll take me over the £50 budget but it'll be worth it.

Out of interest, what size have you done the nest boxes?

I've got 30" width and can't decide whether to do 2 boxed 15" wide or 3 boxes 9" wide.

Thoughts?

2 @ 15" wide sounds good, 9" sounds a bit tight Mines about 20" and they get in 2 sometimes 3 at a time nutters!

I'm thinking then make one big nest box and put a removable divider in it then if they want to share a big next box they can, if they prefer privacy then we can add one or two dividers.  :-)

My ladies lay in an old washing up bowl!  Both sit in it together, gossiping whilst popping 1 out (oo er!!)

Our hen house was a Giant sturdy wooden box that an engine arrived in at a local factory, I just popped a door on, rigged up a perch and put some hay in the washing up bowl!

Hope your all not going to shout at me now at our 'bodged' house!

If I could work out how to shrink photos I would post it on here!  (You've tried to show me but i'm RUBBISH!)

lol i was going to use old washing up bowls but i can only get 3 at the mo , would love to see 14 birds trying to all nest at once in those

i dont think it really maters what we all use i would think that as far as these birds are concerned what they get in their new homes is paradise compared to what they would have been used to .

I think my concern is to make sure that they have enough choice and enough room but by all accounts as long as it's something around them that they can sit in and feel safe they'll lay in anything.
