Is that a Dad thing or just a man thing Janet.  My husband is just the same.  I used find gardening at home and the allotment such a therapeutic way to spend my time until he retired!

Now I listen to what he has to say and carry on the same way as I have been for the last 30 odd years ;)

Please do not tar all men with the same "man" brush after all there is "man" in woman to!  ::)

I think its a Dad thing in our circumstances  ;)
After all, how could his precious little girl wield a spade and get mucky?
I should be in the kitchen rattling pots and pans whilst rearing a few children!
He is very old fashioned.  :)

Thank heavens for coming from generations of men whose wives were educated, equals and given to working for money. Even the ones from Victorian times. If you could handle a spade and a fork, you were an equal. And with time and experience, allowed to have your ways and views.
