Bird damage on crops
« on: January 31, 2010, 11:49 »
During the snow and now the frost the pigeons have eaten the tops off all my onions, garlic and leeks.

Will the plants pick up?  Do I need to do anything to help them?  Should I do something to protect them until they're out of danger (apart from buying a shot gun!)?

The easiest way to protect you plants is to cover them with netting using plastic hoops for support but it might get pricy if you have a lot to cover.

Wood pigeons are a nuisance once they find your crops and will be back time and time again as they love tasty winter greens.

Whether your plants will re-grow will depend how badly damaged they are.

Good idea with the shotgun and wood pigeons are delicious.
