I bought myself a little hand held onion hoe for 1.99 and it's the best 1.99 i've ever spent...use it for the beds and borders too.  Great little tool.

WG is your little hoe a very tiny head....had found one in Dad's shed at weekend but not sure about me and a long handle. My spatial awareness is naff.

Mine is a hand tool with an exchangable short / long handle.  Also reversible; hoe one side, 3 pronged cultivator the other.

Can't find a piccie on the www

Where's the spade I seem to be digging myself into a deep hole here.

I think we're all agreed , onions dont like competing with weeds , if there are a few days of sunny dry weather hoe off the weeds carefully ( there is an art to successful hoeing)dont damage the onions !
and if conditions are cloudy, wet etc handweed.

Worst weed problem amoungst onions I encountered was bindweed ,its a devil to control in an onion bed.
