Gooseberry Fertiliser
« on: January 14, 2010, 10:54 »
Rhs Say this about looking after a gooseberry bush,

'In late winter, feed with a balanced granular fertiliser at 100g per sq m (3oz per sq yd). Avoid feeding the plants with too much nitrogen because this can encourage sappy growth, which is prone to gooseberry mildew.'

Can someone please name a granular fertilser thats best to use? My bush is a leveller  and im sure some fertilisers are not good for this variety.  As i might go buy some for the big thaw if it happens  ::)

Cheers MW

I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

The only balanced granular fertilizer I know of is growmor. I,ve been using this on my Gooseberries for years and been rewarded with bumper crops.

Last year I planted out a fruit garden and the fertiliser I bought was Vitax Q4. Growmore is numerically 7:7:7 and Q4 is 5:7:10. Less nitrogen but more potassium.

Ivor is right. You need something with high potash. Most of the potato/tomatoe fertilizers are high potash.

Do gooseberries need any fertilizer anyway?
