Could you please help me? The OH wants me to grow her some butter beans. I don't know if they can be grown here or if they are a special bean or if it is the way they are cooked as I can't find any reference to them in any of my gardening books.

According to this site they are lima beans.

Doesn't look as if they grow in this country as can't easily see a seed supplier

Some people do grow the white seeded runner bean Czar instead, just for the beans inside...not the pod

most white seeded runner beans are good for drying as butter beans grow them eat them green as normal save what you need for butter beans let them dry completely on plants then save make shore they are really dry the they will keep and you can use some for seed next year

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated. I've found some lima bean seeds for sale on Seeds of Italy so I may give them a go. Once again cheers.
