A lot of people pop up asking about green manures, me included, and it's hard to find specific advice on what to actually do rather than just a long, baffling list of them with sowing dates.

This one explains much more fully; which to use with which crops and which not to use and even how.

The most enlightening thing for me is it explains how to under sow autumn crops so that you are left with green manure coverage over winter after you've cropped your produce.  That has been one of my main stumbling blocks to using - it's usually too late to sow once the beds are cleared.

Also interesting is the reported reduction of pests on brassicas, between 40-100% - although the dratted flutterbys are not reduced enough to eliminate netting.

That is great info - I have been using green manures for a while but have never done 'undersowing' - I will definitely try undersowing my purple sprouting brocolli with clover next year.

I must have another try with green manures. My last go was a disaster - I grew clover and after about a week it all started to pop up. A week later it had completely gone - eaten by slugs!
