White turnips
« on: November 03, 2009, 16:23 »
I just pulled a couple lil turnips to go with tea.

The oven is on so i fancy roasting them.

Anyone help me with ideas of how best  to roast them?  And what do they cook well with?

I grew these for the first time this yr so not really experienced cooking them yet.

Cheers MW.

Hi MW,

They roast well with pears, cream and black pepper as a gratin dauphinoise style dish. Yummmmm....  :)

Would it work with eating apples instead of the pears, do you think?  I have oodles of turnips, apple trees and apples in store, but no pears .... ???

Well madcat, its maybe worth a try with a small amount using apple instead of pear. I have the feeling that it probably works due to the flavour combination of turnip and pear but you never know....
