Hi Diane

Welcome :D

Sadly at this time of year the girls do start slowing down in production :( But if your leghorns are anything like mine they'll deserve the rest :)

It can depend on the breed too :(

My Leghorns stop completely but my light sussex will carry on giving me a couple over winter :)

Also if they are moulting it can stop them for a while :)

Hi mine have also moulting and they stopped laying, also if the weather is to cold or to hot if it's windy the hens don't like it and will lay less.

This is what our done so what to do for the best give them little hats or coats ;)
It's better to be over the Hill than under it!!

Yes, a mixture of moulting and shorter days results in less eggs I'm afraid.

some hybrids like our first lot, (Hy-sex brown or something like that) layed an egg a day each for 1 and a half yrs.  Every day, all year!  Most hens tho do lay much less in winter.

Hi we are only getting 4/5 eggs from our 20 hybrids at the moment, once a week I mix up some layers mash with poultry spice,  garlic and codliver oil mixed in, to give them a bit of a boost

Hi all
If Poppies is only getting 4/5 from 20 birds then my 6 original birds all hybrids (pol this last june) are still performing beautifully with 4/5 a day everyday :D. Just waiting for my three newbies who are about pol now to start laying ::).

Best Regards
