Bay Berries - Can I use them for anything?
« on: October 04, 2009, 21:34 »
We have just moved house and have a couple of fantastic bay trees one of which has some lovely green/black berries on it.  I have searched on google and can't find any uses for the berries - does anyone know whether you can use them for anything? Can you cook with them?

I'd have another Google.

"Using bay tree berries" has thrown back a few results in the homeopathy field, can't immediately see anything in the culinary area.

I didn't know that the bay is what the Romans used as laurel leaves.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Laurus nobilis    :D

Making yourself a laurel crown is about the best use for them, Juliet  :D

I like using the dry leaves in stews and casseroles, but wouldn't use the berries. Aren't they supposed to be very bitter :tongue2:
