This forum has been a lot of help to us, and now I'm asking for more advice. I've got 5 raspberry canes and a blackcurrant to plant. I've prepared the ground and dug lots of manure in. The question is what spacing should I plant them at and, as I intend to build a cage round them, what height can I expect them to grow, so I know what size to build the cage.

Try to put the rasps somewhere where you can catch the runners that escape (not near anything permanent). Put mine about 15 - 16 inches apart. Blackcurrants can get quite big, specially if they flop. Count about 4 - 5  foot across for adult bush

Blackcurrants should be spaced at about 5 foot apart and raspberries about 18 inches. How high raspberries grow depends on variety. Autumn ones tend to be shorter, but my Malling Admiral (summer fruiting) grow over 8 foot, but you can trim off the tops to keep within picking height.
