feather eating
« on: September 30, 2009, 09:02 »
Hi all,
been a while since Ive been here, sorry , but been quite busy.

I have 6 Amber Links which are well known to eat each others feathers, but , one of my girls has developed a bald patch on her neck just above the crop. Not bleeding or looking sore yet so I would like to deal with it before it becomes a problem.
I know there are lots of things heavily advertised , just wondered what the " hands on " folks could reccomend ?

   Cheers  Alby

Are you sure its feather eating?

Is it a partial moult?

Is she rubbing her neck (sticking her head through the wire to get to something?)

Have you checked for parasites.
Stuart

Dont worry I am just paranoid duckie.

If I get the wrong end of the stick its because I have speed read. Honest.

Blar blar blar blar snorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrre.

I am pretty sure it is feather eating as Ive seen them all do it to some extent. Its just that this one seems a bit more than Ive seen.
They all love to catch the feathers from which ever one is dust bathing or shaking herself.
Ive checked for mites and they are all clean, nothing on the other side of the wire to even tempt them, its all slabbed as fox protection.
They are JUST at pol, 3 laying this week and 3 coming near, all seem happy enough and as friendly as usual, just wanted to find out if there is anything I could do , in case it gets any worse
