Pumpkin Question
« on: October 10, 2009, 07:36 »
hi all first year the kids have tried to grow a pupkin and we have a nice one there ready for halloween and a nice pumpkin pie :) the question is do I need to cut it off and then store in a dry place for it to ripen or just leave it on the plant for it to do its stuff? the leaves are really starting to go either by the winds we had recently or just getting old :)

What should be done?

Martin

I'd say chop them off, leaving a couple of inches of stem, and put them somewhere frost free.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

yeah, if it's the size you want it I would suggest chopping it off too.  Leave as much stem as possible, usually about two inches and stick it either in a frost free greenhouse or on your windowsill (sp) should ripen by halloween :D hehe
