Hello Roy and welcome to the forums 

There's loads of articles on the site about planting and cultivation, here's the main page and you can see there's links there for monthly guides, fertilisers // manures etc

It's a bit of a quiet time for planting at the moment; autumn sown onions and garlic can be going in, or perhaps plants of winter cabbage (not seed).

could also try some hardy spring onions and a winter lettuce under cloches/in a cold frame.
