I bought my ex-diy a small incubator for a Christmas prezzie a couple of years ago and recently she wanted to hatch a couple of Indian Runner ducks. All went well until about a week before the hatch date, then during the night the bulb went. It was replaced the next day and she continued to look after these eggs. Hatching day came and went but although one of the chicks had died (the eggs having been candled) and disposed ofthe other one continued to live. It finally pipped but after 48 or so hours seemed to be getting nowhere although the head and beak were exposed and the duckling was breathing...though struggling and gave the occassional peep. I called by and it was obvious that the poor little thing would'nt survive without a bit of help. Ex was'nt up to doing this so I took away quite a lot of the shell but left about a third for it to sit in. I did notice that the egg sac had'nt been ingested and thought 'oh well....fingers crossed!'..but did'nt really give it a chance. Went round again later in the day and the sac had reduced by half!!! The next day she rang and the sac had completely disappeared leaving just a little dried stump.
Here are some pictures....

Angel is now over a week old and doing very well!!!!!
