Duck Wing Clipping Success!!!!!!!!!
« on: September 21, 2009, 21:26 »
I have just clipped my 13 week old welsh harlequin duck wings for the first time.
I cut about 2 inches off the first 8 or so feathers of the left wing.
When I got home they had still managed to fly over their 3ft fence into the main garden!
Is normal? have I done it wrong or is it normal that they can still fly just not far/

Regards
Darren

They should spin round and crash to the floor

Maybe you've not quite taken enough off ???

my muscovies are 13 wks old and i see them excercising their wings every day! i clipped their wings about a month ago. took the primaries down to the same length as the secondaries on their left wings! they still try to fly but think they know they arent balanced, but saying that they still try to fly out of their house in the morning but crash into the floor on landing

Oh! they do still take off but land rather abruptly with a bump   mine girlies did get over the 3 ft fence last night as we got home at dusk and they came looking for me as i hadnt shut their door! didnt actually see them fly over it but would imagine its more of a jump and flutter than a fly!?

Mine don't even leave the floor
Mind I think they got so embarrassed by their rubbish landings that they gave up trying
