rhubarb
« on: August 31, 2009, 11:48 »
I bought a small rhubarb plant for my garden earlier in the year and i read somewhere that you shouldn't pull the stalk's during the first year.

Now i belive the plant i bought was part of a split crown rather than a young plant as even when i bought it, it had several rather established stalks.

It's gone mad and it's loving it's new home and it currently has over 20 large stalk's making it about 5ft wide in all directions  :D

should i still leave it this year or could i pull a few stalk's seeing as it's huge?? i know it's coming to the end of "pulling season" so i thought i'd ask before i tucked it up for winter.

Hi KT, would have thought that it would be a bit stringy, this late in the season. Better off leaving it, to get a good strong crown next Spring.
Think of all that baked rhubard and custard  :tongue2: :tongue2: :tongue2:
