My spring cabbages are coming along nicely and I will want to put them into the allotment soon, but there are loads of white butterflys still fluttering around.  When does the risk of butterflys go away so I don't have to put them under cover (which is where my broccoli & sprouts currently are!).

Its been along time since I visited the site - its good to be back, I'm fed up with studying other stuff!

actually while I'm here - we have planted some pototoes for Christmas ( sorry I can't remember the variety but it begins with the letter 'C') and they are not doing well.  It looks like they are being eaten and have brown patches on them.  Yet I have 2 successful crops of potatoes this year - any clues as to what is wrong with them??

looking forward to the wise words of wisdom  :nowink:

Re - the spuds - "Carlingford"?

I'm afraid the brown patches may be blight.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I aim to put my spring greens by mid Sept, by that time things are slowing and I couldn't see many buterflies wanting to lay by then, those that do wont make much inpact.

Don't want to sound like a doom and gloom mercahnt, but when the risk of caterpillars has gone, you have the woodpigeons to consider ..............................  :tongue2:

there are wood pigeons about but don't seem to cause me much of a problem.  I use CD's on string to keep them away and as I about to finish an Open University course I will have lots to spare.

thanks for thinking of it though - I hadn't! :)
