Hello

I have recently been looking into ex bats, when I read a bout the rescue it stated that they treat broken wings etc, so from that I would guess it is treatable.
We had a fox attack recently and I noticed one of mine had droopy wings for a few days after, I assume it was the shock.

It may well not be broken, it could simply be pulled muscle or strained muscle. If you have a sensible vet then broken wings are treatable because the chicken does not need the winf to fly if it sets weaker then there is not the same problem as a flying bird, if you see what I mean.
Good luck with her.
Now retired from the day job and working hard on my smallholding.

hi, we have 6 ex-bats ...and we,ve had 2 with broken wings. the first one was strapped up and the vet was not very hopeful, even saying they would probably have to amputate because of where the break was....well she is fine now. she had also popped her leg out, and its the limp that is causing more problems than the wing! But even tho she is limping she managed to jump up on the sofa last night to beg for pizza  :D. our other chicken Dorey, did not have it strapped up and she is having problems with her wing. its healing badly and i think she may have infection in the bone- she is feeling very sorry for herself :(. she is eating, sunbathing, scratching around and doing chickeny things, but her wing is no where near as good as willows. of course it dosent help that she is at the bottom of the pecking order and the others keep jumping on her . Anyway....if you dont know how to deal with the wing, i would pop her to the vets...although it would have to be your call because she has had a massive trauma, and taking her to the vets will stress her out more.

I had a little Silkie cockerel once who looked in a very bad way after next door's dog went on the rampage in my garden  >:( but with a bit of rest and quiet he recovered very nicely. He had a droopy wing initially, but that sorted itself out with a bit of time too. Muscles take a while to heal.

I hope the terrier is looking suitably guilty, do you think it`s got the message that the chooks are part of the family.

I've merged the two threads as this is a continuation of the first.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
