Getting rid of spores...
« on: August 20, 2009, 14:06 »
On the lottie recently I used some communal compost that might have been infected with white rot, culb root and lots of other goodies - which is why it was still there!

Any road up...  It was only used on one small bed under a shrub, so I can avoid it, BUT I really need to clean my tools and boots thoroughly to stop it spreading.

What can I use that'll get rid of the spores?  Jeyes? Vinegar? A nuclear bomb? Or shall I just give up as I'm next door to the communal heap and the wind will blow it over anyway?  :(

Jeyes is a disinfectant so it probably is worth a try on your boots and equipment (it's not legal to use it on the soil though).

Whether it will actually kill off the baddies I don't know but nothing ventured etc
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks Yorkie!

It had been suggested for the soil, but it was only one very small patch well away from everything else, so I wasn't going to bother.  Anyway, there are hellebores in there

It's just possible there isn't white rot!  The gent told me nobody used the compost because all sorts went into it and it never got hot enough to kill things.  So it's just possible I got away with it.  Still want to clean off the things I used though.

I just wish someone had put a sign on it saying "Do not use"   Then again, I didn't either  ???
