Old Strawberry Plant Runners
« on: August 12, 2009, 13:18 »
After clearing my new allotment I found some strawberry plants that were already establised so I weeded the area & managed to get a few strawberries from the 6 plants there, not that many though to be honest. I presume the plants are more than 4 years old as the plot had been vacant for so long before I took it over. The plants have now sent out runners which I have pegged down but should I bother with them or simply start agin from some new plants that I know the variety of, etc to get a decent crop?

i'd pot on the new runners, give them a chance and see how well they do next year, although they won't produce loads in the first year, i think i read strawberry plants go downhill after three years so you could start afresh next year with the new plants  :)
