I'll split it off and move it to the Grow Your Own section, Chrissie  :D

Edit: and now it's arrived, you might find that this thread has a possible answer?

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

It is the plum moth.  I sprayed just before the blossom opened as I heard thet it helps but 90% of mine have been affected.
Cheese makes everything better.

I've always sprayed when the blossom is open. However, the RHS say that none of the pesticides available to us lowly home gardeners is effective.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I put up a pheromone trap each year.  The instructions with the pack say that if you catch a large number of moths you should back it up by spraying with any garden insecticide a week later.  I did this one year and we got our best crop of plums ever.  This year there were not many moths caught, so I did not spray.  So far I can see little damage, but the plums are not ripe yet...

Cheers,

Gillie

The neighbour used to put out pheremone (sp?) traps which caught a lot of plum moth but i have never bothered. No traps out this year as the next doors tree has died but we have had a dozen ripe plums from our tree already and not a single maggot in sight which is suprising as the maggoty ones normally ripen first . If you give the tree a good shake when the first fruit ripens the maggoty plums will drop off leaving the sound fruit behind.

Hopefully the last cold winter will have killed a lot of moths. :)
