Peas - leavers have gone yellow
« on: July 16, 2009, 13:56 »
My pea leaves have gone very yellow, and some of the pea have brown marks (kind of spotty) on them.  What does this mean?  I have only been harvesting for a couple of weeks.

They are probably done. Chop them off and dig the roots in (see the other thread)
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

Couple of weeks - about par for the course.

Under things like runner beans, you average pea does not have a long production period.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

It means that you should pick all that you can and freeze the ones that you can't eat down, then clear the bed ready for another crop.

You're just on the late edge of the sowing time for autumn picking, so it's starting to be a risk as whether the crop will mature. You also run the risk of mildew.

If you do go for it - do it ASAP & chose an early variety like Kelvedon Wonder.

Do it nice & early - you'll miss the worst of the pea moth & have little chance of mildew then. That's why I go pretty much for an "all in one go" approach.
