Had my combine harvester out...
« on: July 10, 2009, 19:06 »
In spring, we noticed a clump of tall grass next to our heather bed, where we fed our visiting ducks last year.
As it grew, we realised it was some sort of cereal from the mixed corn feed. :)

I've just harvested our first crop of oats, wheat and a bit of barley and strung it up in the shed to dry so we can feed the chickens some home-grown. :D

Might consider a bigger patch next year. It's quite ornamental as it ripens. And this was just on a rough, bare patch in the lawn.

 :lol:Rock n roll !  :D

I was reading up on what to do with it and I doubt if the calorific content would compensate for the amount of work needed to process it.  ::)

But a nice free crop all the same.

Sounds good
I actually like grasses as an ornamental plant anyway  :D
