Slow moult or ?
« on: April 19, 2007, 21:10 »
My three hybrids started moult about Oct last year just started dropping the odd feathers & egg production slowed.

Egg production is still slow or erratic and they still have not lost all their feathers, still just dropping the odd ones.

I've checked the flights and they are still clipped which I did not long after I got them at POL in September of 2005.

So how long do I after wait before we see regular egg laying again? I know we are not going to get 3 a day like the first year but 7-9 eggs a week seems a bit low and the boss is saying we could use the room they take up for other things. So it may be bye bye.

There fed on pellets, with the occasional table scraps and as much greenery as I can find.

Any suggestions please

I'm in a similar position to you richie.

I got my to chooks at POL in September 2005.  They are down to about 3-4 eggs each per week.  They look a bit scruffy but I honestly can't say they have moulted at all.

My girls are pets and will be with me until they die a natural death, which will hopefully be long after their egg laying days are over

Lucky Girls you have there Aunt Sally I'm quite happy to keep mine for another year or so as long as we get a regular supply of eggs, I've probably got room for another 6 or so with a shuffle round. But they are housed in the back half of a shed and we are running short of space so I have to justify them staying. If they do have to go I think I will try to rehome them rather than kill em. Killed my last lot many years ago, was not nice and no one would eat them, so it really was a shame.
