Liquid fertiliser?
« on: July 08, 2009, 23:36 »
Hi

I am struggling to get my runner beans to a decent level, and the brocli got all eaten so is a bit stunted, was wondering about a bit of green liquid fetiliser being watered on.

If I was to get a milk churn or two full of slurry, water it down and water on, would this help?

Cheers

Dave

Although I must confess I know very little about the nutrient value of slurry, my gut reaction is to wonder whether it might have a detrimental effect if it's fresh slurry - perhaps burn the plants?  I know fresh manure is not good but am not sure whether the watering down will neutralise it.

Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows the specific answer.

In the meantime here's a thread from earlier today also about liquid fertilisers, albeit a slightly different question from yours  :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Hi

I don't think the slurry would be fresh, as it has been in the lagoon for a good while.

They spread it on crops, so can't think why it wouldn't work.

I could mulch it with solid cake, and then water that in, but I just thought watering a slurry water mix, may be easier.

Anyway, thanks for you reply, and look forward to others oppinions.

Cheers

I'm not sure but if it's diluted down I think it would be ok. I water all my veg with water from my little duck pond which is basically dilute duck poo and everything grows like a rocket!
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
