a few minuets ago I went outside to check on my chickens, one has been strange lately, not moving much apart from eating and not laying. I picked her up and checked her over, the horror came when I checked her vent. its incredibly swollen and red, and there is evidence of yoke around the edges. I carried her over to the door, then went to get help. when I came back for her a few minuets later, she was still sitting in the same place. she is currently sitting on A garden chair, we are going to give her a warm bath and put some cream on her (which we used for a hen in prolapse) any help?

I'm guessing there's some broken egg inside her which will need to come out. She may need antibiotics if it's been there for a while, which will mean a visit to the vet.

A luke warm bath may help to relax her. I won't try to offer advice on any procedures because I've never had to do it, but there's a few seasoned members who can talk you through what to do.

sadly, she didn't get any better even with medication and died 2 days later

thanks, it was worse because another of our elderly hens died the same day
