really big eggs
« on: July 09, 2009, 16:49 »
We have 12 birds, 9 of which are this yrs POL and have been laying for about 2 months.  I know the newbies often lay double yolkers, we have had some long eggs and a couple of big ones too but today there was a really big egg with a smear of blood on it.  It must have hurt to pass that one, she may even have needed an episiotomy!  I have peered at bums as they were all scratching about today but no obvious sign of blood or prolapse.  Is there anything that can be done to prevent this again or is it just down to mother nature?  Will it harm the hen?
