Growing cucumbers
« on: July 05, 2009, 15:17 »
I have three cucumbers plants in my greenhouse.  I bought the plants and believe they are female plants, the flower is at the end of a mini looking cucumber.  The plants are growing very large and outgrowing the stake I put in when they were small.  Should I be stopping the top growth?  How tall would you allow them to grow to?  How often should these be fed and would a tomato feed be suitable?  Can cucumbers be grown successfully outside in a sunny, protected position?  Between the cues and the tomato plants growing so much, I am shortly not going to be able to enter the greenhouse to water them, so it would be good to get some of the plants outside to ease the situation.  I have read a previous topic that mentions bitter cucumbers, is there a way to prevent this?  Thanks for any help with these.

If they are all femail then they need to be in the g/house. Put a couple of the toms outside if they are in pots :)
My cue has reached the roof and i will now train it along the ridge as usual :)
I use tomato feed...toms and cue get done at same times :)

Very helpful, I believe they are female as the name was "Fem????something or other".  They are all in pots, so I shall put some of the toms outside to give me more space.  Sounds like I did not need 3 cue plants, if they are successful I shall be over-run with cues. Thanks for this advice and also for answer my potato question.

Added to the above - the variety of cucumber is Femspot.
