Raspberry question
« on: July 02, 2009, 20:15 »
I have 2 x 8mt rows of Glen Ample raspberries 6 years old,i have noticed that the construction of the raspberries sometimes varies,by this i mean that the individual segments on some berries are tightly packed together, while some appear to be looser in their formation and tend to come apart when picked.Overall the crop is fantastic, just wondering why this happens, any suggestions.I wonder if it is anything to do with the way they are tied to the horizontal wires.

I wouldn't think so. Occasionally I get these with my raspberries, which are a different variety. It would more likely do with water intake if anything. Perhaps there's some rocks in the root area, could be anything like that. I just bung in lots of manure each fall and give them water if its dry and they reward me, even if a few fall apart.  :D

i knwo what you mean - i get this too - i don't think there's a particular reason - maybe it's because they're new canes?
the bigger looser ones taste better, but they're all good!

I still freeze the ones that come apart.  I love the little bits /balls of raspberry frozen, they seem to taste better frozen.  Just right to pop into your mouth whilst bagging up the whole ones that have froze.
