Dear HM,

I have found this to be quite effective.  You MUST establish yourself as the Alpha Chicken of your coop.

First, catch your rooster. Chase him relentlessly until caught.

Next, on bended knee, gently flip him on his back.  Maintain eye contact.
Hold him down with a hand on the breast bone.  Just enough pressure to hold him in place and that he knows you are in control.

Continue in this mode until your rooster relaxes and totally submits.  Don't stop.

Hold him in this position about a minute longer, maintaining eye contact, then gently
lift up your hand.  Stay on your knee, maintain eye contact for another 30 seconds then
get up.

Do not, I repeat do not help the rooster up.  He will do this on his own.

I only had to do this twice.  My rooster now lets me pick him up and carry him around.

Repeat if there is a lapse.

Good luck.

I am not sure it would be wise to lay a cockerel on his back, particulary if he is large, IMO might be better on his side. :)

He might have trouble breathing putting him on his back.

Rooster is approximately 14 lbs and had no respiratory difficulties.
Process was quite effective.

Hi Egg Lady and welcome!  I tried the flipping on the back and everything else with Beck's my aggressive cockerel, but it didn't work.  Neither did the dunking in a bucket of water after about 10 minutes he was back to normal.

but yesterday I caught him with my landing net and held on to his feet with one hand while holding round his body and wings with the other and walked around the graden with him talking to him.  When I put him back in his run, he was very quiet for ages, but still goes for me at the fence.  Mind you, giving his 2 ladies 10 minutes peace and quiet from his squawking did them the world of good!!!! lol

Thanks GrannieAnnie :nowink:

Happy to be on board with other chicken lovers.

Buddy Boy took 2 - 3 times before he caught on.  Now all I have to do is call his name, you know, like MOM used to do.

All my boys (4) after being indignent (it's all show) for a minute or two like to be cuddled.

Different techniques.  Use whatever works for you.

Thanks.
