randy cockerel
« on: June 28, 2009, 09:26 »
I have a beautiful big friendly buff Orpington boy but a bit too friendly with his girls. He has done quite a bit of damage to a couple of the girls backs. I have tried leaving him on his own for a while but the problem re emerges. Is there any humane way to deal with his spurs to alleviate a bit of the damage. It isnt just feather loss he has penetrated the flesh on a couple of occasions.

you could try clipping his nails (i've never done that) or you can buy poultry saddles to protect your hens backs.
