Hi - I could really do with some advice about my leek seedlings which don't seem to look like they should (or at least what I think they should) look like by now. I planted seeds (Autumn Mammoth Tornado) on 11th April in small pots and have grown them on in my greenhouse and planted them out last week. The problem is I keep reading that they should be the thickness of a pencil by now but they're nowhere near that - they're quite long 15-20 cm ish but think long green shoots. Does anyone know what's wrong with them or am I being impatient? Cheers

I keep reading they should be the size of a small pencil, but a pencil seems quite thick, 8-10 mm. So I ignored it and planted them out 4-5 weeks ago. ::) ::) ::)

They sat looking a bit lost and confused for about 4 weeks but are now staring to grow and get bigger. Still smaller then a pencil. ??? ??? ???

Just water them, really there is little else if they are in the ground. :D :D :D

I haven't read that they are supposed to be the thickness of a pencil LOL.  But I have my usual self blanching Lathom growing and they have really come on, where by we are already cutting sticks off, did mine in Mid march though.  BUT I also tried some victoria for the first time and they are slower.  They like lots and lots of water as they are a bog plant.  We gave some to a friend and his are slower, so don't worry about them.  Lots of watering, which of course is easier if they are at home than on an allotment, so I water mine every other day.

Oh and I did plant mine out early in May.  Sunny south coast.
