A thickie onion question!
« on: June 24, 2009, 13:12 »
Its my first year growing them - does the bulb disappear as its growing and the base of the stem then swell to make the onion, or does the bulb already in the ground swell up even more to form the onion? Thanks

The bulb swells up even more.

A set is an onion that has been halted in it's growing process. It's then shipped off to you to "set" it on it's way again! (See what I did there?)
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hi, when you first plant a seed onion the plant puts on layers which make the onion, thats why you feed early with high nitrogen. Then the layers swell to make onion large thats why you feed late with a high potash feed.
