Sprouting out of time
« on: June 19, 2009, 13:08 »
I planted purple sprouting broccoli plants in early April.  Being new to the allotment, I was slightly out of time for planting the seeds without a rush, so bought the plants from the garden centre.  The label simply said purple sprouting broccoli but did say 60 - 90 days.  It is now sprouting merrily away and we have had two lots of shoots from it so far - which were delicious.  However, I can't see that anyone else has PBS ready now and can't find it in the seed catalogues.  The only ones mentioned are the type to over winter.   The plants are about 2 ft tall, very healthy, ground duly trodden down tightly.  Does anyone know of a variety that is ready now or has something gone wrong?  ???

Sounds like you might have summer sprouting purple broccoli, such as these.
