So sorry to hear of your eggs Jane.  I still haven't candled mine yet.  First attemp last week (day 7/8) was futile with a very poor torch.  Couldn't see a thing.  Hopefully will try again this evening.
Hettie is still sitting tight and has to be lifted out each day, but Hattie comes out of her own accord.
When she can, Hettie grabs her other egg back from Hattie's patch, but no squabbles so far.  Should have got her a clutch of her own, but thought out of two broodies, one might be a good Mum.
Now a light Sussex is going broody, but Andy said, "Stop her, we can't loose any more eggs!"  We need another 10 laying hens just to keep up with regular orders!!!

My Skyline (Cream Legbar hybrid) is thinking about being broody too. I find her in the nestbox every day, hoarding. She gets short shrift - I need the eggs! x

I have just brought home 3 2 day old Cream Legbar baby girls. They look like little quail chicks with their brown eye stripes.

SPLORT! (Head explodes from too much cuteness)  :D

I will report later on how successfully we have introduced them to Ethel. Please cross fingers

Hello Jane,
I am on day 14 with my four remaining eggs; 3 have something and the 4th is unsure!
Hettie and Hatty are sharing still.

Now Constance, my black Nera is broody!!  I am already struggling to fill egg orders!

I need another 10 laying hens.  As it is, I am missing out - it started out that only the spare eggs were for sale, now it's us that are getting any spare!  I am too soft to our friends, but the girls are paying for their own food, bedding, etc.

Babies were safe and warm tucked up under Mum this morning. Now she needs to realise that she can stop brooding them all the time! Will take pic as soon as. Good luck with egglets Mary!

This is brilliant!  I showed this to my husband because we have a broody hen right now.
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

Mum and chicks doing well

I nad never realised how difficult it is to take a picture of little baby chicks. I tried to get one of their little heads sticking out from under Mum's wing like buttons, but failed. So you'll have to settle for these  ::)

Ethel is a wonderful mum and currently determined to teach them how to eat corn, although it is much too big for them. She nibbles it up and drips it to them. Perhaps I should feed her chick crumbs instead!

They will be out on the grass again later today when it is all dry, I will try to get some more pictures then.

Thank you to everyone for crossing things!! :D
