Hi all

This is my first year of growing sweetcorn and just wanted some info from someone who has done it before.  My sweetcorn has now been outside for about a month and is about 2 / 2 and a half feet tall but I noticed last night a few of them now have the top growing out of them rather than more leaves. -  Is this normal at this height?

I was expecting them to be a bit taller/ later in the season before this happened.

this can happen ,

now they should get fatter stems

 and again will start to reach for the sky

My Swift are doing that.  Bred for a very short season I believe ... so maybe not such a bad thing?

Mine were sown on 1st April, planted out on 4th May.  They look at a bit anaemic though - cold nights in part I think

Yep mine look very much like your picture, and were planted about the same time...... can't remember off the top of my head which type mine are though.

They'll keep growing but if your weather is relatively cool, the height will be less than expected. Corn is a warm weather crop and without heat, the yield and size is always less.
