I give mine porridge made with water mid afternoon with a handful of corn an hour before bedtime, the pellets are out all day, I bring them in at night to discourage rats. I mix chopped cooked veg into the porridge to make sure they have lots of greens (the grass disappeared a long time ago)

Hi,

Just spoken to the breeder who has also offered me 'Warrens' at 30 weeks and laying. They look good but I can't find them in my books or any useful info online.

Is the Warren a breed or a hybrid? Can anyone enlighten me about them please?

Thanks yet again.  :D

From what I understand they are pretty much the same as Isa Browns, just a different "brand".
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Ok, so that's a Rhode Island Red hybrid?

just had a quick google and isa browns, isa warrens and lohman browns appear to be the same and yes rhode island red hybrids (of course someone may correct me on this - but thats all I could find on google  :)). But at birth they are able to sex them and dispose of the males.
Staffies are softer than you think.

So they're good layers, I guess.

Do hybrids suffer from any particular problems (longevity etc?)

They are the typical hen used in factory egg production because they lay reliably.  You'll get plenty of eggs from them and they are sweet birds.  Be aware that they have been bred for egg production not longevity or meat.  Hope this helps
