Hello,
I have 5 buff orpington chickens that are 3 weeks old. Four look alike and 1 looks different . They are all supposed to be hens. The fifth chicken has a smaller tail and the feathers on its back are different. Is it a mutant or is it a rooster? I did not think you could tell by the way the chicken appears art this stage.

Do you have a picture of them at all? would make things a bit easier. Also, its the law on this forum...lol...

Sounds like a cockerel to me, usually with the Buff Orpingtons the hens get their feathers quicker.

If it does turn out to be a rooster, you should be able to get a replacement from the supplier.
