Limping Broody Hen
« on: May 26, 2009, 17:03 »
Hello,Totally new to forum thingys so i hope you can please bear with me.
I am relatively new to keeping Chickens too.I have a Broody bantam(Dorothy) who has hatched 3 lovely chicks 3 days ago.I noticed she was having difficulty walking and thought it may be cramp with sitting for 3 weeks. But i looked at her and she has a lot of hard lumps ofraised  skin and on the back of her legs she has got like a accumalitive "horn type" skin approx a quarter of an inch thick.I have read the forums etc and i presume she has scaly leg.I smothered her legs in vaseline which seems to have softened it up but her skin seems very sore.I am reluctant to use other treatment because of the chicks.Could anyone tell me please if there is anything else i can safely do and will she recover?Thank you-Alec
