Is this botryitis?
« on: May 21, 2009, 11:17 »
Can anyone confirm if this is botryitis, or suggest another disease it might be please on my gooseberry twig?

It wasn't the best specimen when I bought it, but I thought I'd give it a chance.

The leaves and new stalks have died off over the month its been planted and now I've spotted this grey mould like growth round the base.

is there any hope or is it for binning? Its looking very wet as we had torrential rain overnight, but I haven't been over watering
Thanks

Guessed that was the case - someone might recognise it if they have had something similar on their bushes

Main problems like this for gooseberries is mildew or botryitis, one is white the other grey. I suspect that light grey and grey may be nearer the truth. Botryitis seems more applicable to fruit. So I am guessing slightly bigger chance of it beit mildew as it is on the stems.

Treatment for both, if you want to give it a try, is a systemic fungicide.
