Advice on supporting melons please
« on: May 21, 2009, 08:50 »
I am trying melons for the first time.  I have three plants growing nicely in the greenhouse and they are about 9" high now, time to be planted.  So, can anybody give me some advice on the best way to plant them.  I am torn between planting them in the bed in the greenhouse or in growbags on top of the staging.

Help needed please and what is the best way to support them?

Thank you in advance

i was going to build a frame to go inside the greenhouse and use pieces of net to support the melons
If the early bird gets the worm how come the 2nd mouse to the trap gets the cheese ??

I grown mine up a cane attached to the side of my greenhouse, and then train the laterals along horizontal wires. Some pictures in My Blog.

Melons grow quite tall, so not sure starting from staging would be ideal

My freind supports his melons using his wife's old bras strung across the greenhouse. The cups are large - you can guess the rest
There's more comfrey here than you can shake a stick at!
