Japanese onions
« on: May 15, 2009, 13:48 »
Hi,
I planted some japanese onions last winter & after a few month of not doing much, They are starting to swell. My concern is that they look a bit shallow, is it a good idea to earth them up a bit?

Also would birds do damage to them?

No and No.

The bulbs grow above the ground and if the birds haven't moved them for you by now, I doubt they will.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

They'd be after what you'd disturbed in the soil when weeding. The onions would be too well rooted for them to move.

They're very good at re-postioning the sets when you first put them in though.
