Hello,
My family recently got ex-barn chickens, we have had them for a at least a month and they have been thriving with their new life, we also got some younger hens as well about 2 weeks after.
Today we noticed one of them, who has been particularly pecked in her former life, has been wheezing and stretching her neck up and opening her beak as though she can't breath properly or has somehting stuck in her throat, she has also not been moving much and did not eat food or drink water. She was fine earlier today and is usually very lively. There are also bees near where we keep them so could she have been stung or possibly eaten one? Do you have any ideas why she could be like this? Thanks.

Welcome to the Hen House

Have you been able to have a feel at her crop? This should be empty first thing in the morning but feel full through out the day whilst eating. Even if she is not eating it would be good to check it first thing in the morning.

Is there any peculiar smell around her beak or nostrils?

Any other signs of ill health ie are her eye's bright? What colour is her comb? Have you noticed her poop at all? If so what is that like?

Thanks so much for replying but we got someone who helps with the gardening who knows about chickens and he said there was something stuck in her throat. He treid to get it out but he couldn't and unfortunately she died.
