Moving Daffodils
« on: May 06, 2009, 12:48 »
Hi folks,

There are some daffodils on our plot (about 6- grown by the previous owner), they've flowered and died now.  I am just wondering am I able to dig em' up and plant them elsewhere on the plot, theyre just in the wrong spot, I don't want to just get rid of them altogether if possible?

They'll be OK to move once the leaves have died right away, but I don't know about moving them before that - I haven't tried.

I would let them die down as much as you can, then you can put them in a temporary trench/pots and let them die down fully, preferably in sun as it's this time after flowering that is building next years flowers. A foliar feed wouldn't go amiss either.

I've just sat down and logged on to ask exactly the same question  :D :D.  Most of mine are in the wrong place.

I have dozens but only had 5 or 6 flowers, the same as last year, so presumably they're set at the wrong depth??  After I have lifted them and let them dry out, can someone confirm please that they should be set again in autumn?

In UK I had them in the ground for years and never had cause to disturb them.

Hope you don't object to me using your thread Shamps.

To make room for my raised beds, I moved quite a few daffs just before flowering, and bless them, they still gave me a good show.
