I've read that spinach doesn't like transplanting. Unfortunately I've got some purple sprouting broccoli where I'm going to put the spinach. Broccoli should be finished in a couple of weeks. Should I start the spinach in seed trays and transplant it anyway, or should I wait? Or maybe use peat pots (or newspaper pots)?

I would wait,spinach is best sewn direct especially if you want it in any quantity.I have sown and grown it in a window box container before(they are cheap and useful for salad mixed leaves too)but you would only gain a short time on direct planting.

sorry to disagree annie :oops: i found that my spinach did really well outside after been transplanted,i was well pleased with the results

Odd, because spinach is a cool weather crop. Can't see the point in fussing with so many seedlings that won't really gain much inside. Were you using old seed before?

Personally I think that avoiding any kind of moisture stress is the main thing.  Whether you direct sow, or transplant then keep them moist until they can get down permanent roots.   If you do try wee pots, then keep them outside.

i didnt say that i transplanted them from inside to outside,just transplanted from a seed tray from one site to another in the ground
