Butternut Squash and Sweetcorn
« on: May 09, 2009, 20:44 »
I am getting very short of space on my plot.
Can I plant Butternut Squash between my Sweetcorn, I know its not ideal but has anyone ever tried this or anything similar?
Thanks FB

I had sweetcorn, courgettes and another type of squash in the same bed last year and none appeared to suffer unduly.

Others do say, though, that they are all very hungry plants so lots of growmore, or fish blood and bone, and chicken manure etc when planting
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

i dont see why not,as long as the sweetcorn has a good start.
the thing with gardening is dont ever be afraid to try something new, trial and error is a great experience.
what works for one person may not work for someone else.just get out there and enjoy the experience.bob

I wouldn't do this to my corn, personally, but you try and see. However, you can always plant those squashes - which on most summers here shall not ripen well - in your compost bin and likes. :tongue2:

Did squash and sweetcorn together last year - great results, going to do the same again this year! Go for it!
