Do I need to worry about my potatoes?
« on: April 29, 2009, 16:18 »
I put some first earlies, second earlies and 'early maincrop' in on Easter Monday and watered them a bit when the weather got really dry, and now there's nothing showing at all.  With all the posts about people earthing up in case of frost I'm wondering whether they've all been baked under the clay or else watered too much and rotted.  Am I just being paranoid?

My main crop went in on good Friday and they have only just started poking their heads up through the soil. I'd give them a while yet before panicking ;)

Don’t worry about them as they are almost a weed in constitution. A good few weeks is normal.

I could be one of those guilty of causing you concern – mine went in on 1st March after having chitted for a month first. I was ridiculously early, but have got away with it so far given the great weather we have had. If we get a late frost then you may have the last laugh…

They should be OK, but there is no need to water at this time of year.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Looking at that picture reminds me of my daughter who is nearly 3 - she is obsessed with watering anything and everything, previously using her extra small Fifi and the Flowertots watering can but more recently moving to my full sized watering can. I have to boot her out of the greenhouse sometimes so she doesn't wash the more tender plants away  :tongue2:

I am not sure if she likes watering better than putting seeds in or the other way round. Still, at least this year she doesn't eat as many of the seeds as she did last year
