New allotment help
« on: April 29, 2009, 18:01 »
Hi,
I get access to my allotment this weekend, and dont know where to start. I know what I want to grow and have a very willing hubbie (who thinks he knows a lot!!) and would be interested in any "to do" lists that anyone would like to offer me!!
Thanks
Mel

It kind of depends what state it's in really.  If it's head high with weeds try & strim everything down so you can see what you've got - that will take you a while & you can spend lots of time sitting around drinking tea from a flask & eating biscuits whilst having "strategic planning breaks".  I'm sure someone will be around just now with more helpful & constructive suggestions..... ::)

Congrats Finty22  :D

First of all, read this article from the Info pages on clearing a plot:

http://www.allotment-garden.org/articles/Clearing_a_New_Allotment.php

Then, look at this article on planning a plot:

http://www.allotment-garden.org/articles/Planning_the_Plot.php

And after that, have a look at the monthly articles

http://www.allotment-garden.org/garden_month.php

But, most of all, grow what you want, take a bit at a time, make sure you've got something planted soonish so that you get something to crop whilst you're toiling away - and ENJOY YOURSELF  :D :D

Also, take lots of before / during / after pics - not just 'cos we're nosy but because it's great to look back on what you've achieved.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Don`t try and do it all at once or you will soon get fed up. :D
